Frankie and Johnny
The song Frankie and Johnny turned out to be amazing. Today was my first time hearing it, and I learned a lot from it. After hearing the song the first time, and then listening to it again with the lyrics made me aware of what the writter of the song was trying to convey to the listeners. Several quotes such as "I saw your Johnny 'bout an hour ago, with a gal named Nellie Bly" really opened my eyes to new horizons about things. I took the time to try and figure out why the song was written? If I had the oppurtunity to handle the situation, I would have been really hurt if my boyfriend/husband treated me in that manner, but not have reacted in such a way. Some things that I would have done differently would have been, left from the saloon when I found out about what was going on. After leaving I would have went home and prayed about the problem. In the bible, it says to respect and love others with all your heart. So by Johnny doing wrongful, I would have thought to myself that karma comes around. I think as whole, my class really enjoyed this activity. As we got together in groups, we were able to discuss with one another wat we think the main idea of the song was? The top (3) questions that my group came up with was: "If there was no moral to this song why was it written? "Why would Frankie continue to butter up the situation if she knew he had done her wrong? and last "Why did Johnny have an affair? Was Frankie not good enough?Reviewing different parts of literature express ones feelings. Personally I think that authors write to express their inward feelings about their past experience or what is currently going on in their life. "He was her man, but he did her wrong." I strongly believe that if you truely love someone then your reactions would not let you trat your spouse with disrespect. On the other hand, I beg to differ that this story was not written without a moral. Last but not least, I think that if I had someone that thought they were lovers and the tragedy ended in this way, I would be there as a comforter and friend to lead them in the direct path. I think this was a great song , and it can really be beneficial if you take the time to understand what it is exactly about!

This was a good song. I disagree with the part that a true lover would not cheat on his wife. You can love someone and still break your commitment. However I do think your point is that if he loved her enough, he wouldn't need a mistress. I wonder if she showed him enough love as well? You have a good position here, I just have a different opinion.
ReplyDeleteI partly agree with Cress, true lovers does not automatically means faithfulness, it may mean a high chance of faithfulness but nothing is guarantee unless you set your mind to be faithful. Things happen and sometimes we are not discplined enough to react properly though that should never be an excuse.
ReplyDeleteLove? What is the exact meaning of love? and exactly who came up with such a word? while reading this literature piece, several thoughts came to my mind! The story made feel very good about myself. I honestly can say that everyone have their different opinons on certain things in life. As an example, Terri and Mel had different view points on the keyword love then what my boyfriend and I might think. Personally I characterized each of the characters as being normal. Although, some of the characters took what happend from thier past realationship and let it effect their present, I do believe that many of times that can be difficult. After someone that you have truely loved, and you thought that he/she loved you back but it seems to be all lie can be very hard to deal with personally and mentally. With Nick, the narrator, and Laura his wife agreeing on basically the same thing, my group came up with the cnclusion that they have probably witnessed less love affairs that have not turned out so well, or either therir parents were great examples while they were growing up.Nevertheless, changing their views on love also changed the story. In the introduction of the story, when Laura quoted "Well, Nick and I know what love is..."and counting to the break after." I believe that a couple that is working on a life long realtionship must work at whatever they do. No realtionship is going to be perfect from the begining, everything takes practice! To conclude even though they thought it was true love, after a couple of drinks different emotions begin to show!
ReplyDeletehm. I have to say i disagree with both Cress and Emily about the whole love thing. Mainly because i think it really comes down to what our definition of love is. I believe that love is death. Love is death to self. So, in my opinion, you don't really love someone unless you have died to yourself. If you have died to yourself, then you would not cheat on someone, because all that action is, is selfish. It's all about the one who cheats and what they want and what they need. Jesus even talks about this in Luke 14. He says if one is not willing to give up everything and follow Him (dying to self) then He doesn't want us at all. I don't know that I'm right... just sharing another opinion.
